The 2009 Annual Conference of the Siegfried Sassoon Fellowship was held on Saturday 12 September at Lucy
Cavendish College, Cambridge. Forty-six delegates enjoyed lectures from three distinguished speakers: Dr Ann Thwaite, Dr Patrick
Zutshi and Dr Jean Moorcroft Wilson. After tea, Kayleigh Fitzgerald led a walk to the grave of Dr William Rivers, Sassoon’s
mentor. Flowers were laid and Kayleigh gave a short talk on Rivers, accompanied by appropriate readings.
In the evening a splendid dinner was put on in the Warburton Room, following which our new President, Dennis
Silk CBE, talked about his memories of Siegfried Sassoon and Cambridge.
On Sunday morning, Phil Carne and Kayleigh Fitzgerald led a walk around the centre of Cambridge, calling
at St John’s College and Clare College and culminating in a visit to the Fitzwilliam Museum, where we had lunch and
dispersed.
